About.
Born and raised in Istanbul, Turkey, she began singing at an early age and performed at several concerts, plays, and musicals back in Turkey. During her college years at Bogazici University in Istanbul, she was a vocalist at a jazz-funk orchestra and an alto singer in a classical music choir and received jazz vocal training from Elif Caglar, a renowned jazz musician in Turkey.
Birce moved to the United States in 2014 and was awarded with a full scholarship to pursue graduate studies in Global Affairs at Yale University. She always kept her passion for music alive during her time at Yale: she created a series of events named "Lady Day: A Tribute Project to Women in Jazz" and performed jazz pieces by female artists at the university and other venues in New Haven, Connecticut. Her musical journey extended to New York City, where she briefly studied at the New York Jazz Workshop.
After relocating to Washington, DC, Birce balanced a career at the World Bank with her love for music, performing at various venues across the city. Inspired by ideas conceived just before the pandemic, she launched 'Mediterranean Nostalgia,' a recurring musical theme that delves into and revives songs from her parents' generation in Turkey and the Balkans. She also organized numerous house and park concerts in DC neighborhoods, uniting local musicians in vibrant community performances.
Now splitting her time between Paris and DC, Birce takes classes at the Paris College of Music, where she continues to refine her jazz artistry. In addition to her performances, she is working on her own original music.
